05 Chevy door pods and amp rack (alot of pics)

I'm back, here is my second project. After doing my F150 a few friends were really impressed

and one was in the market for a new stereo already so I put this together for him.

I learned a lot from my first project and I think I did a much better job on this one then on

mine.
Enjoy.

Heres the Equipment.

Laying up the rings, using the Froto trick. Very handy.
I made flush mount rings, but now know that you need to leave enough material to be able to

lay a groove to staple too. I didnt and wish I would have.

Wrapped using grill cloth. I didn't really like the material. It didn't seem to stretch as

well as the fleece I used before. But it was much thinner which was nice.

One of the major problems with my last build was the edges not lining up. This time I used

some duraglass like I've seen others use. I mounted the pods and stuffed the seams with the

filler and ended up with Perfect edges.

Sprayed on some primer and sanded it out. Added some glazing putty

Sprayed some more primer and sanded, and repeated.

Now on with the Gloss Black. I had the primer Perfect. Then The black was ok, but I had a

little orange peel effect that I didn't quite know why, but I think I do now. My coats were

too light, I Got it pretty smooth with the black. I wet sanded with 1000, 1500 and 2000, but

still there are some rough spots, that I couldnt get out without going through the paint. so

then I added the clear and had lots of trouble with that. It's not perfect but I'm still

happy with it.

Heres the pics of it in the doors. You can see how straight the edges are and how the match

up perfectly.

That's it for now on the pods. Heres some pics of the amp rack we built. We also did a mod

on the back seat to allow it to fold down.

Heres lee helping mount the equipment after I did the carpeting.
