Requesting advice on molding plastic pieces

Here are some photos of some work that I did on my old 92 Civic hatch.

Molded in a double DIN and relocated the AC/heater controls to the OEM audio console, however I used an Acura Integra climate control unit instead.

I used CA to hold the double DIN in place and then applied Devcon Plastic Welder to fuse the pieces together. I also applied the same technique when molding the AC/heater control to the audio console.

With that being said, I had a lot of problems in getting the surface just right. I kept encountering pinholes and other imperfections. As I was (and still am) a novice, I kept reapplying more plastic welder, letting it set, and then sanding it back down. I had to do this countless times to get it "perfect" for painting. I did not use any other products to mold the pieces together, as I was unsure of what should be used to simplify this process. I just went with what I knew was working for me at the time.

I would like to hear from the more experienced fabricators how I could have done this much easier.

Right now, I am molding a GReddy turbo timer into an ashtray and would like to utilize your experience/advice into finishing this project. Thanks in advance!

Looks nice.

I have always had the same plastic issues. I have yet to find a plastic bonder that doesn't leave pinholes. I like to seal it up with epoxy primer and use glazing putty. Otherwise the poly-based putty just falls off

Thanks, Nelson. I picked up the primer and glazing putty today and followed your advice. So far, so good.
