| Need advice on pillar pod build
I've been trying to look through here and get some good ideas for my pillar pods I want to build. I want to install three gauges and am have an idea but need some advice. So my idea is to start by taking off the pillar. I'm going to wrap it in tape and then do a coat or two of fiberglass in the area where I want the pod. Then I'll remove the fiber glass and start my work.
-I'll use three pieces of pvc with the ended caps to hold the gauges.
-I'm thinking of just using a little QuickPlastic to hold the pvc to the fiberglass. Allows me to slightly move the pvc to make sure the pods are in the spots I want and angled how I want.
-Once it's dry I'm thinking of using spandex/polyester stuff I used for my sub box. Its easy to stretch and mold. But I'm not sure how to mold it into the shape I'll want. With my sub box I could staple the fabric in the spot I needed and it would stay to be fg'd. How would I attach it to the fg and pvc with this?
-After that, some body filler and sanding
-Duplicolor bedliner
-SEM color match paint
Do you guys think this process will work? Can I get some input on how to mold the spandex stuff? Also need to think of how to mount the whole assembly to the pillar after. My pillar is fabric so I don't want to mold the thing right into it. I want a removable piece. Maybe two small screws molded in the fg that will go threw the pillar? Help is appreciated.
