Impulse's Cobalt SS/SC FG box

This is my first attempt at doing a fg box. I've done kicker panels and a few other misc so here it goes.

Ahhh finally it has begun. Impulse has started his fiberglass project.

-pic of the trunk after I removed the old box

-I found the best way to get a perfect copy of you trunk floor is to take the carpet out and trace it. So convenient.

-cutting out the bottom board with the old black and decker.

-just did a little test fit.

-now I wanted a perfect fit to conform to the side of the trunk so I fiberglassed a thin strip on the sides to get it perfect. I’m then gonna use it to trace onto mdf. Here’s pics of the taping and fg.

-I started doing the rings and here’s pics of my ghetto circle jig and the rings cut out. I still have to round over the edges and add the t nuts etc.

-finished up the sub rings. I glued and nailed them together then I rounded/rabbited the edges. Then drilled the holes and added the t-nuts.

-here is a pic of the bottom and back pieces put together and then another with the sub rings on it. The sub rings are going to be angled a lot differently and further apart. I partially finished the amp rack that’s going to go in between the subs but I didn’t take pics yet.

-here’s pics of the partial box in the car. I made the box so that I will be able to get in and out in case of flat tire or when I go to the track.

Get yourself either the accuscribe or the profile transfer wheel. Its much easier and faster.

it came out really good. I gave it to my uncle. I wish I had finished pics of it but i don't. Yes I am most likely going to do a carbon fiber cover.
-it's not the money for a circle jig that was holding me back it was just the timing etc. that link has some awesome products on it. I like that forming rope thing. Def gonna pick up a few items from them.

How did you pull the back seats out? I ended up unbolting the whole structure rather than just the backs.

I need to go nab a picture of mine in the trunk. Just primer, but it I'm pulling it out this week due to increased break-ins at school.

the seats are a joke to take out. there is a little tab that holds the seats in on the outer most side of the seat. look where the seat pivots near the trim. push the tab away from the seat and they pop out.

Haha great. My buddy will be plenty pleased to hear about that. We spent a half hour or more busting them out.

-i chose not to go to classes today because it was too nice out and I have the online notes already. So i decided to glass the sides. First off holy sh*t my back hurts. Here's pics of the sides done. I know some is completely not soaked but it's still sticking well. All I'm looking to do is get a decent few layers done so I can take out of the car. The way the trunk is and how far the box is in it was hell on the back and arms I had to contort my body all sorts of ways while glassing because it hurt so much lol. Im pretty sure the layers I laid down will hold up perfectly to get it out. Then I wont be in so much pain. I can take it out and reinforce the sides outside of the car .
p.s. - wearing a respirator along with a huge thick hoodie in a black trunk 75 degrees out is pretty dam hot lol.
