mixing Carbon fiber and fiberglass will it work?

Ok so im new here but i have been starting to work with fiberglass recently and am about to start using CF to make some interior trim peices and some engine bay peices. Im going to use the vacum baging to a mold techneque. I have already made my mold of one of the engine bay peices. Now IDK if many people here know much about working with CF but here is my question. I was thinking to use probaly 3 layers of CF on the peices so they are strong enough. But CF material is expensive so im thinking if i use a resin and hardener that will both work well with the fiberglass and CF would i be able to just lay the first layer with the CF so that it gives the CF look and then just lay 2 more layers with fiberglass behind it then vacum bag it. and when its done just spray the back that will be fiberglass with a black paint and then spray the whole thing with clear. Im thinking that this would be a way to save a good bit of money because i realy only makeing these parts for the look of carbonfiber.

Now to my concerns

Useing the fiberglass will you be able to see it thru the CF at all? Will using the fiberglass behind in combonation with the vacum baging imprint the texture of the foberglass thru to the face of the CF?

Any input would be great

Also i will start posting a thread when i start my project.

Thanks guys
Kevin

read some posts over on racingcomposites.net........ there are several stickies that will help ... personally i would make the parts out of glass then use a vacumn bag to overlay some carbon. there is no reason to use several layers of carbon on a non structural piece that is just for looks.

im goign to go check that out now. So you think i should use my negitive mold and make some replicas of the part out of glass then would i have to smoth out the glass after it hardens with like bondo? Or do you think i could just use one layer of CF and overlay that and vacum bag it?

If you're mold is smooth, you won't need to finish your piece with body filler. You'll be able to overlay the CF or use a vacuum bag once you pull your part from the mold. However, spray the part with black paint first. Otherwise, the FG will show through the CF weave.
