Flip-Out Screen Clearance Problem

I'm ordering a Clarion VZ709 7" Flip out DVD player for my 1980 Datsun 280ZX, but when the screen comes it needs to clear the heater controls right above it. Is there any way to extend the single-din housing forward so that it can clear the controls?

Now that my post count is high enough I can post pictures.

This is the single din slot it'll go in. Right above it are the speaker controls that it needs to come in front of. Is that possible?

I can't see the picture

but, You can always add a trim panel and then mold it into the dash with glass.

Do it right the first time or don't do it at all!

I second that...extend it out then glass it smooth....but you could do the quick fix and just make a 1/2" or whatever you need trim plate, paint black and leave it

For a flip out in a 280 you're probably going to have to build the trapazoid section up until it is even with the leading edge of the radio console so that it can clear the dash above it. I'd build the whole section up with some wood and then glass over it.

Maybe this picture will work..

Thanks for the info, thats exactly what I was looking for.

The unit should be arriving today so I'll try to post some pictures. Also, I forgot to mention the gauges on either side of it, but I don't think it'll be a problem.

Another choice if you want to put the work in to it would be to move the HVAC controls down to the radio location and put the headunit up where there are now. It'd take a lot of work but you gain you a lot more clearence for the flip out portion, not to mention get the radio up off the floor so it would be easier to see. There are a ton of things you can do. This was one of the first cars I learned installing on, 1980 black and gold 10th anniversary edition.

Na, you should be able to make it look 10 times better with glassing everything into one unit.....pods and dvd mount in 1 piece

yeah just glass it in there but I would center the unit versus having it off to the drivers side like it is in the picture. That will give it a much cleaner look. Plus you can flush mount the unit and have a smoother look to it.
