Some rust fixing

Decided to tackle some rust on the Aurora.. it was worth than I thought once I started cutting. It's not perfect.. but hopefully it'll look a lil better once I'm done and it'll keep it from rotting out for a while.

That's it for now.. ran out of welding gas

Here's some more workin. Got most of the body work roughed out. I blocked it with a small block, not super worried about a perfect panel.

Here's some pics.

Work on the passenger side:
Interesting story.. my rear passenger window stopped working.. and that door has rust on it. HMMMM. Must have a leak in the belt molding that wiped the window motor and soaked the sound deadening.. I'm going to have to investigate... here's what I found

Grinded it, cut it out

Back of the piece, along with the sound deadening that was behind it.. gross!

Crap pic of the filler plate

Filler piece to replace the wheel well metal that was rotted.. welded up the whole seam but didn't take a pic.

Filler

Gobbed some metal on

Hard to see, but welded up everything in the wheel well so that nothing leaks into the trunk.. then hit with some undercoating

Didn't take any pics of the process cuz I was getting tired, but here's the finished passenger door jamb

Quick and dirty filler work, then some rattle can primer to finish it off for the night.. since it's supposed to rain tonight

It's not a perfect body job.. but I'm happy with it.

Nice job! I need to do this to my doors at the bottom as well, trim ripped and leaked and door just held the moisture, that and salty road in Chicago winters.

Yes!!
I had a buddy with a Beretta that had a little peeling paint on his quarter panel and I said I'd re-shoot it for him... Hit the peeling part with the paint stripper and sure enough there's a big-ass hole through the panel. Disaster.. I didn't have a welder back then and he said just go ahead and sling bondo over top of it. That fix didn't last very long before the lines started to show.

Bottom line.. never ever never patch rust with bondo, lol.

Clear needs to get cut then another layer shot on because of the metal flake, but I probably ain't gonna bother since it's not a show car... can't wait to get it into the sun.. took a mirror outside and it looked AMAZING!!

You're definitely going to have to bathe that thing in clear to level out all those tape lines and metal flake. Can't wait to see the finished product.
