Fiberglass's heat resistance

Hi all

I'm making a mould out of fiberglass on which i plan to sculpt clay on. Thing is that i'll have to bake the clay on the mould to maintain its shape. The clay needs to bake at a 130c (266F).

Can the fiberglass mould handle these kind of temperatures? If there are other suggestions i'd love to hear them

Thanks

It Prolly depends on how long it will be in the heat

Should only be in the heat for about 30 to 40 minutes

I'm using fire retardant resin right now (only because it was on sale ) anyway, once I've read the specs pdf and there was info that the actual parts should be exposed to baking heat before actual use if being used within next few days or something like that ... So maybe try using something like the fire retardant resin. Any proper supplier should give you proper info sheet on their products spec.

check the spec sheets for your resin. you are looking for the heat distortion temperature (HDT) this will help you decide in a suitable product. at that temp though, i would point out that voids in your laminate if its not too flash are bound to burst. just something to be mindful of.

Thanks for the heads up zac

I'm gonna get evering together this weekend to create my first prototype and test it under the heat. Will post how the whole thing went.

I've done quite a bit of work with fiberglass but i've never had to heat it up to these kinda temperatures before so i'm looking forward to seeing what will happen

266 should be no problem
For regular resin
